Common Bond*

Common Bond
1706 Westheimer Rd.
Houston, TX, 77006

If I am ever asked to give a lecture on how a physical space should be used to reflect the soul of a business, Common Bond will be my first example of how this should be done.  Even if the shop were to sit entirely empty, it would radiate excellence and attention to detail.  From the glass pastry display that runs the length of the building to the floor-to-ceiling windows that make up three quarters of the walls, everything about this place communicates vibrancy and life.  The building acts as the perfect frame for artistically beautiful baked goods that are Common Bond’s core offering.  In a wonderful change of pace, coffee is the accessory in this cafe. Don’t take that to mean it’s lacking; the drinks here are as beautiful as I have ever seen while the care put into sourcing and creation presents a consistent level of quality.  As I have talked about in my musings and as James Hoffman has proposed, for a coffee shop to really leave a mark and survive the inevitable burst of the bubble it needs to sell experiences not commodities.  Common Bond does just that.

Coffee: 7/10

Staff: 8/10

Atmosphere : 10/10
