Literati*

204 S 4th Ave
Ann Arbor, MI 48104

I’m a huge fan of the bookstore/coffee shop combo.  The pairing just breathes creativity and discovery.  Literati provides a bright take on the idea with vibrant colors and sunlight giving the natural clutter of a book store a clean feel without sacrificing the personality the shelves bring. Overall, Literati makes for a pleasant stop any time your in Ann Arbor.

Coffee: 7/10

The coffee here was good in a not particularly memorable kind of way.  As with many of the shops I visit, they do the basics well but go on to add some traditional, but uncommon items to the core menu (the One + One and the Picollo, both are simply espresso and milk in different proportions).  I was fascinated by the mechanical dosing system they use for their EK43 (pictured below); it likely creates some variation in coffee dose size because it measures volumetrically but the average customer won’t notice.

Atmosphere: 9/10

Staff: 8/10

Overall: 8.0/10
